Sergeant-At-Arms Leena got us started with a round of introductions by drawing from a stack of words we must use to describe our day. Some of us had fun, hectic, quiet, sunny and productive days.  President Aarti shared with us two moving stories of fortitude about teenage girls who faced great challenges in life but went on to overcome them. Katong Toastmasters Club made history on 18 February 2016 when it fielded 7 contestants for its International Speech Contest and 5 contestants for the Table Topics Contest.  It was the first time in the history of Katong TMC that we had so many contestants vying for the trophies.   These are some of the contestants in action. In the spirit of celebrating Lunar New Year, we had a Lohei session during refreshments. We had fun tossing and shouting out goodwill, auspicious wishes. Once again, we had the wonderful members from NUS Alumni Toastmasters Club to assist us in organising the contests and to ensure its smooth running. A big thank you to all our appointment holders: Chief Judge           Area Z3 Director Roy Wong Organising chair    Tu Yu Contest chair         Wee Gee Shing Timers                   Guo Cheng, Defriceni Ng Tally Counters      ...

Let me share the stories of their fortitude with you all. Nidhi Yadav from India lost 4 members of her family in an accident less than a month ago. The accident that left her with a fractured hand, took away her mother, her grandmother and two younger siblings. While the physical pain has taken its toll, her mental agony has been more acute. Yet it has not stopped the seventeen-year-old from appearing for her Higher Secondary Certificate examinations that began this month. The examination that happens to be THE most important one for students in India - which either make...
