Katong's 18th Anniversary Celebration

 HAPPY 18TH BIRTHDAY

KATONG TOASTMASTERS CLUB! 🎈🎉🎊

We had catered a sumptuous buffet spread for this special celebration for more than 30 members and guests attending the meeting.

Our Sergeant-At-Arms Swarna warmly welcomed all members and guests and invited them to share ONE word they associate with the year they turned 18. There were a whole variety of adjectives including
hopeful, independent, stressful, emancipated, liberated and mature.

Ice-breaker session led by SAA Swarna

We had the honour of inviting voice coach and professional speaker Cynthia Zhai to present a 45-minute workshop on Your Voice Matters. She shared that breath is the power of our voice and that we can change our voice quality. There were exercises to help us practice breathing, activation and resonance. We also learnt how we can express emotions through our breath. We can follow her on Facebook and Youtube to learn more about how to develop our voice.

After the interesting and stimulating workshop, it was time for group photo and cake-cutting. We blended our voices to sing the Happy Birthday song to Katong TMC.

More than 30 members and guests attended our celebration meeting tonight! 💗

In the second half of the meeting, Malcolm presented a 5-7 minute speech on Reaching Consensus from the Effective Coaching Level 3 Pathway. His speech title was Let's Vote for Good Food! He shared slides to convince members of the importance of good food at every chapter meeting and how we need to increase funds in order to have fun.

Speech evaluator Joni commended Malcolm on his use of slides to create visual impact and rhetorical devices such as alliteration and pun to create humour. She also liked his use of questions to engage the audience. Her recommendations for improvement includes sharing introduction with TME in advance, avoid talking to the whiteboard and planting supporters in the audience to aid his cause.

Table Topics Master Ida had 5 guests and members on stage to share personal stories and their thoughts on various topics about life.

Rahul: How to create happiness
Hakim: Enjoying life's moments
George: I'm explaining to you why I'm right, not arguing with you
Yau Hong: Our deepest need is to have someone wonder why we're not home yet
Defriceni: Opportunity only arises when you're ready

Hakim was voted Best Table Topics Speaker for his inspiring sharing on how we should open our eyes and ears to be ready to appreciate life's little moments that bring beauty.
